■ Description One of the rarest one-of-a-kind pieces ever produced during Martin Margiela's own tenure — a vest from the Artisanal Line 0, the absolute pinnacle of the Maison's creative output. The circled "0" on the white numbered label identifies this as an Artisanal piece, handcrafted individually by the Margiela atelier team in Paris. Each Artisanal garment is unique — no two pieces are ever identical. The line's founding concept was the deconstruction and reconstruction of vintage garments and everyday objects into entirely new creations, elevating the act of remaking into a philosophical and artistic statement. This vest is constructed from approximately 50 vintage zippers — sourced from various manufacturers, varying in width, color, and hardware finish — assembled vertically and hand-stitched together to form a body-conscious silhouette. The mixture of silver and gold-tone zipper pulls creates a layered, geological density of contrasting textures and tones. When worn, the zipper tapes cascade freely downward, generating a distinctive fringe effect that animates with movement. The characteristic Maison Martin Margiela white label — carrying the numbers 0 through 23 with the 0 circled to denote the Artisanal line — is present at the back, confirming authenticity. The ONE-OFF series produced across 20052006 — which also included leather glove vests and hat vests among other iterations — represents the absolute apex of Margiela's Artisanal output: garments constructed entirely by hand from individual components, without precedent in fashion history. The series has achieved permanent recognition at the highest institutional level, with examples held in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Such was the global demand from collectors and archive stores that all known examples disappeared from the secondary market years ago. When pieces from this series surface at major auction houses such as Sotheby's, they consistently realize ¥1,500,000¥2,000,000 (approx. $10,000$13,000 USD), making this the single most valuable series in the entire Martin Margiela archive. This particular zipper vest was acquired on the international market approximately two years ago for around ¥1,200,000 — and given current exchange rates and continued market appreciation, the present value is likely considerably higher. This example was acquired as deadstock approximately 15 years ago and has been stored unworn in a dark environment ever since. It is, without qualification, among the most important collector objects in the entire Artisanal archive — a museum-calibre piece offered in outstanding condition. We hope this finds its way to a true fashion devotee. A zipper bracelet from the same season, produced using the same construction method, is also listed simultaneously. While rarer than the vest in its own right, it too is an exceptionally scarce piece — please consider both together.
