This is a completed 1/700 scale full-resin model kit of the United States Navy
Buckley-class destroyer escort USS Buckley (DE-51),
as operated during the Second World War.
The Buckley-class destroyer escorts were constructed primarily for convoy escort
and anti-submarine warfare duties.
They served mainly in the Atlantic, protecting Allied merchant vessels
and vital maritime supply routes from the threat of German U-boats.
USS Buckley was the lead ship of the Buckley class.
On 6 May 1944, she engaged the German submarine U-66
in a fierce close-range action in the Atlantic.
The battle included gunfire and an intentional ramming attack
and resulted in the sinking of U-66.
Although less famous than battleships and aircraft carriers,
destroyer escorts carried out some of the most demanding and essential
naval duties of the war, protecting ships transporting troops,
fuel, weapons, food and other vital supplies.
This model was built from a full-resin kit,
allowing the fine moulded details and three-dimensional character
of the original kit to be fully utilised.
Particular attention was given to maintaining a natural 1/700 scale appearance.
The paint layers were kept as thin as possible in order to preserve
the delicate surface details, fine fittings and sharp edges of the resin parts.
The overall colour tone has been kept restrained and realistic,
without excessive contrast or exaggerated weathering.
The model is intended to present a clean and balanced appearance
when viewed as a complete 1/700 scale warship.
The finished model was photographed using dedicated lighting
and a background prepared specifically for model photography.
The photographs have not been digitally altered,
apart from minor adjustments to colour and brightness.
