A signed kozuka by Yanagawa Naomitsu of the Yokoya school.
For those familiar with tosogu, the exceptional level of craftsmanship will be immediately evident. Particular attention should be paid to the lion’s mane. Each strand of hair is individually carved with subtle variation, especially in the swirling “tsumiji” expression, demonstrating an extraordinary level of precision and refinement. The overall workmanship is of remarkable elegance, comparable even to Yokoya Smin.
The applied lion motif (suemon) is of outstanding quality. The gold exhibits a brilliant tone, suggesting the use of high-purity gold. The sculptural presence and substantial weight strongly indicate solid gold construction. Works of this caliber by Naomitsu, especially in good condition, are known to command high prices in the market.
Condition Minor damage to the edge (koguchi) Slight lifting of the gold plate on the back (appears to contain air beneath)
These are consistent with age and do not significantly detract from appreciation.
